Does the sinker go above or below the hook?
Many times I use a 3 way swivel. I used a long leader for the hook for live bait and a short leader for the hook if the are crabs stealing your bait. I also use sliding sinkers, sinkers with a hole in it. The line goes through the sinker and the hook on a long leader goes on the line below the sinker.
Do I need a swivel when fishing?
The core benefit of a swivel is to prevent your line from twisting, so situations in which line twists are a risk is when swivels should be used. Note: Line twists are bad for anglers because twists can weaken the line and they also can cause the line to get itself into knots when casting (ex: those pesky wind knots).

Do you use a leader with lures?
The quick answer is that a leader isn’t necessary in most crankbait trolling situations. … Most of these fish caught while trolling have the lure lodged firmly in their mouth, but not buried so deep that the fish can shear off the line. Also, pike and muskie-sized crankbaits are more than a mouthful even for big fish.
Do you use a sinker with a bobber?
Crimp a small split-shot sinker on your line just below the bobber, enough weight to help keep the bobber upright but not so much that it sinks the float. Fresh bait puts out natural scents that attract fish, so replace your worm once it gets soggy and turns pale. Now you can stop fishing and start catching!
